Work Permit after Study in Ireland

International students can stay for two years to find employment in Ireland after completing their studies at an Irish university. You can work upto 40 hours per week and earn a minimum wage of €9.15 per hour or more depending on the skills and job requirements.

Education System in Ireland

The Education system in Ireland is similar to the UK education system. It has 4 levels: pre-primary and primary, post primary, further education and training, and higher education.

Higher Education is funded by the Irish government and includes all the universities and college degrees and technology institutes.

  • A Bachelor's degree is around 3 years, while Medicine and Architecture programs are for a duration of 5-6 years.
  • A Master's program is usually around 1 year, with some courses being of a longer duration of upto 16-24 months.
  • A Ph.D is about 3 years followed by the dissertation.

Eligibility & Admission in Ireland

To study in Ireland, there is a minimum eligibility criterion as below:

  • You can apply directly from the university website.
  • Generally, standard tests, such as the GRE, GMAT (especially for MBA), are required for undergraduate and graduate courses.
  • You need to hold a foreign high-school diploma/bachelor's degree (for graduate students) so that you qualify for university education in Ireland. Various universities require different minimum marks to be eligible.
  • English Language Proficiency. TOEFL, IELTS, and PTE Academic are the accepted English exams to prove English proficiency.
  • For admission to specific universities/programs, students require passing particular entrance exams.

Student Visa Application
There are two types of visas.

  • Category C: Short-term visa, when the course duration is less than 90 days.
  • Category D: Long-term visa, when the course duration exceeds 90 days.

Non-EU students also have to register with "GardeNationale Immigration Bureau"/GNIB if their stay extends beyond the initial 90 days.
